Paper Grocery Bags?

What ever happened to paper grocery bags? Ever since I started my compost bin, I've begun to notice how such a LARGE fucking percentage of products come packaged or sold in things that aren't disposable.
Most boxes are coated in a plastic covering that can't be composted. Stores don't even sell things in paper bags anymore, and plastic is SO destructive to the environment.
I remember distinctly as a kid, stores used to sell everything in paper bags en masse! What happened to that? Why can't we just go back to it? Everything I use today has to be recycled and can't be broken down out in nature.
I barely have anything I can use as brown waste in my compost.
If we can't do paper because of trees, why not hemp paper? Seriously this kind of pisses me off. It would not be hard at all to just go back to using grocery bags that can break down.
Re-usable grocery bags are also very efficient, it's just, I need that brown waste for my compost bin. I wonder if you can just buy your own grocery bags and bring them into the store?
Because if you can, I think I'm just going to bulk buy paper bags and uh, do that.
It's just, I wish everything wasn't so, uh, plastic. You don't really realize how much shit that you use every day that isn't disposable until you need to work with nature to break things down for your garden.
90% of even packaged food boxes? You can't compost. It ALL has a plastic coating. Every box you see that has that shiny sheen to it, it has plastic on it. It's insane.
Anyways, this has been a rant lol.
I wish we could just ban plastic bags.

A Cold Front

I recently moved my seedlings to the garden thinking the last of the cold was over, but it suddenly dropped to 40 degrees today. I have some plants out there that aren't supposed to be out in weather much colder than 50 degrees, so I hope they can make it. I worked really hard on these little guys and giving them compost to make sure they'd grow up healthy and strong. This cold won't instantly kill them, so I'm hoping it warms up. But if it stays this way, they aren't going to make it.

I've also been listening to Drunks and Dragons, and boy, I've been had. This entire episode i was listening to was actually just a play on thanksgiving! lol. The dreadwing is dead!

Rice Bags

What's a rice bag? How do you make them? And why do you need them? Because they're the bomb.
Get any piece of fabric, a sewing kit, scissors, and a bag of uncooked rice.
Cut two equal sized squares out of the fabric, sew them together while they are inside out, then turn them back right-side in to hide the seams.
Fill up with rice, then use the ladder-stitch to close the top. (you don't have to use the ladder stitch, it just helps hide the seam.)
Now you can throw it in the freezer, or heat up in the microwave. Rice retains temperature really well, so you can use these to cool off, warm up, or place on something that hurts to ease the pain.
They're super easy and cheap to make, I consider them a necessity!
