Koalas Functionally Extinct
If you've been up to date on Australia's bush fires, you might have heard of the sort of devastation they've caused.
However another depressing fact has come to light: 80% of the Koala's habitat has been destroyed. Over a thousand of Koala's have died.
They've been declared functionally extinct. The Koala population can no longer be sustained, because of the specific needs that must be met to keep the population alive, therefore it's no longer viable.
There is still hope, if the surviving population is larger than estimated, but as things stand, the species is done for.
The damage the bush fires have done is very heartbreaking.
